Cerro Grande Renovation
Context
The building was designed by Guido Bermúdez and constructed by the company IVECA under the Banco Obrero housing programme. Completed in 1954, the project aims to integrate this historic modernist building into its existing context, blending it seamlessly with the surrounding urban fabric. Located on the back side of Cerro el Valle, Cerro el Valle is part of the mountainous terrain that characterizes much of southern Caracas, where many informal self built barrios also developed.
Building Additions
In order to better connect the barrios to Cerro Grande, hole-like public spaces were made for the residents living on the hillside to look through. In order to compensate for the loss of units made with the holes, corresponding buildings were placed in the hillside with a flexible living style for the barrios to still be able to build their own units.
